From the east the territory of the country is washed by the Caspian Sea. The mountains of Caucasus and Talysh that are crossed by fertile valleys lake up more than a half territory of the country. Along with steppes and sparse growth of trees in the mountains there are vast shaded forests. Up to 1250 big and small rivers flow in Azerbaijan. The biggest are Kura River (1515 km) and Araz River (1072 km). The real adornments of the Azerbaijan land are its mountainous lakes. There are more than 1000 mineral springs, (the most famous - Badamli, Istisu, Sirab. Fauna and flora of Azerbaijan are rich and diversity. More than 1200 types of animals and birds inhabit here: bear, lynx, wolf, Caucasian goat, jeyran, deer, turaj, pheasants, flamingo, pelicans and etc. White sturgeon, salmon, kutum, stellate sturgeon, sturgeon are found in the Caspian Sea and in the mouths of the rivers flowing into it. Climate is transitional, from temperate to subtropical. The average temperature of July changes from +5°C in Alpine areas to +27°C in low-lying, and in January accordingly from -10°C to +3°C.
